No profession is immune to racism, but not everyone is addressing it. Our Boldly Against Racism campaign aimed to drive change across the entire organization.
Staff, leadership and committee members were provided DEI training, which facilitated discussions that wouldn’t have normally happened. A DEI advisor position was established and soon after elevated to an elected officer position on the society’s executive committee. Other changes included meeting guidelines, creating DEI sessions at events, funding research, establishing an annual award and significant changes to the committee nomination process.
Progress can be achieved only by directly addressing the causes and effects of racism.
