Navigating the open access shift in scientific publishing

by The 100 Companies

The recent White House open access directive for taxpayer-funded research marks a significant change in scientific publishing. By the end of 2025, federal agencies must ensure research from their grants is immediately available to the public. For associations like ASPET, which relies heavily on journal subscriptions, this presents challenges and opportunities.

ASPET is launching a gold open access journal, ASPET Discovery, in 2025 to accommodate the shift while maintaining the society’s relevance and financial stability. We’re also actively engaging with agencies like NIH to shape the implementation of these policies, ensuring they’re beneficial to researchers, authors and the society itself.
